Flowers of Evil est vraiment un album spécial dans lequel Ulver joue le rôle de l'illusionniste jusqu'à en être carrément fallacieux : retour de la synthpop (ça serait bien la première fois qu'Ulver reste dans une zone de confort), pochette étrange, références bibliques et culturelles à foison... Mais si on creuse un peu plus, c'est un Ulver tragique qui se dévoile, un Ulver qui parle de bombes atomiques ("Little Boy") et de massacres injustes ("Apocalypse 1993") : un Ulver plus froid et mature.
